Top 5 brand new NetEnt online slots in 2022:
Knight Rider, Cornelius, Space Wars 2 and many more
This week Evolution Gaming held an online event to present their roadmap for 2022 across all of their brands. So let’s take a look and see what NetEnt has in store for us for the rest of the year.
Todd Haushalter, the Chief Product Officer for Evolution reiterated that “NetEnt has always been about innovation and quality and that’s really where we’re focused”. Throughout 2022 they’re going to continue to use Netent to try out new ideas in various directions.
1. Knight Rider slot
The first game they presented was a slot based on the 80’s TV series Knight Rider. If you’re one of those people who got to experience the show around the time when it was originally aired, it’s going to bring up some big feelings of nostalgia. The narrator voice and the soundtrack seem to be mastered well and sound just like the original.
For the ones that haven’t had the chance to be familiar with the franchise, you’re still left with a NetEnt game full of volatile mechanics. It’s a slot that’s based around wilds: you’ll have walking wilds, which will slide over to a different reel when you get a win, the ability to group them together before they move around the board, or even guaranteed wilds during the free spins feature. The wilds themselves can also be multiplied and together they can end up giving you a 120x multiplier on your line win. This will be the next slot they’ll be releasing so we’re looking forward to getting our hands on it in more depth.
2. Cornelius
Next in line was a cartoony slot going by the name of Cornelius. It’s a game featuring a fat cat that needs to become even fatter because, why not? I’m sure some of us are familiar with that type of pet and it’s likely some game designer from NetEnt is part of this select group.
They presented it as a ”cash collector” game where it’s all about getting more cookies in the cat’s bowl. Practically the wilds seemed to be used as “lump sum” symbols and they are added to the prize pool every time they come up. During the free spins feature there are other symbols which can multiply the amount of cookies (or cash) you’ve collected so far. From the little we’ve seen so far it seems like this is going to be another one of those NetEnt games that will be added to the bonus “ban list” on launch day, but we’ll see.
3. Space Wars 2: PowerPoints
Even though it shares a name with the 2013 slot Space Wars, the second version seems to be a significant departure from the original. First of all, it seems to have 7 reels and 6 rows opposed to the 5 reels and 4 rows from the original. Next, it didn’t seem to follow a “payline” model like in the past, but it was closer to the more familiar grid style games from Play’n GO. They even changed the artwork to a more colorful style, like in their competitor’s games.
The main feature Todd pointed out was the fact that you can gather points as you play and match symbols. Why gather them? Because… everyone else is doing it and slots need this feature. The preview didn’t reveal that much in terms of features, so we think this game’s make or break moment is going to the paytable.
4. FunkMaster
It seems 2022 is going to be “Year of the Wild” for NetEnt since it’s another slot where the focus seems to be on the Wilds. The selling point seems to be “You get Wilds that increase the play area so you get more Wilds until you get extreme wins”. And you’re doing all of that on a funk music soundtrack that they licensed.
The first time we saw this, before we heard the talking points we thought “This is Gemix with disco balls and less features”. And so far nothing we saw in the reveal presentation changed that impression. The visual part looked polished, as it’s customary for NetEnt slots and we can expect quality just as good on the audio part, but we’ll have to see if this is going to be an innovation or a clone.
5. SuperStars
This is going to be NetEnt’s masterpiece for the year, a great feature rich slot with crossover characters from all their most successful games: Starburst, Piggy Riches and Finn and the Swirly Spin. It’s going to be like the Marvel VS DC of NetEnt slots, or at least that’s what was tryig hyped in the final moments of the presentation.
Unfortunately, we don’t have more details on this, not even a few screenshots were shown. So it remains to be seen what this is going to actually be, however Todd hinted at the fact that “it has a feature in it that you could play 1000 time and still get wildly different experiences each time”. That does sound exciting!
Conclusion
All in all, the presented NetEnt line-up has offers across the spectrum: licensed slots, casual games and “unknown” heavy hitters. Even across these launches it seems that there is something in there for everyone, enough to keep us on the edge of our seats until we can finally get to push that “Spin!” button.
